Operation Paper-Mache

For all that do not already know, fellow Physics Honors classmates, James Park and Andrew Wu decided to pull a prank on Mr. Haywood. Code name? Operation Paper-Mache.

Mr. Darryl Haywood, the AP Chemistry and Physics Honors teacher, had his own special way for dealing with tardy, food-eating, and gum-chewing students. Every time someone committed one of these sinful crimes, he would simply ask the student, "Jail or Fine?"

"Jail" meant something along the lines of detention. No one picked jail because he actually organized a time for you to come in and it meant that you absolutely HAD to come in.

"Fine" was the more popular choice. Students would have to bring into class a pre-specified item of Mr. Haywood's choice. Example? Rulers, paper towels, or...

TISSUE BOXES.

Mr. Haywood often forgot about these fines and because he gives up on reminding people to bring in their fines, the student would most probably forget as well.

On a random day during class, James and Andrew decided that over the course of the two years that they had Mr. Haywood as a teacher, they owed him a lot of "fines". After much thought and discussion, the two decided to pay back all their fines in full.

Operation Paper-Mache
THE REPORT

(the fabricated story...or at least some of it is)

On Sunday, May 21, 2006, Andrew and James decided to go to the nearby Safeway to get their tissue boxes.

After finding the tissue box section, they compared prices and decided which one was the cheapest.

Since, between the two of them, they owed so many fines, they had to find out if all the tissue boxes would fit into Andrew's trunk.

After finding out that all the tissue boxes would probably fit into Andrew's trunk, it was only a matter of buying them. However, after buying-out all of Safeway's cheapest tissue boxes, they had to venture next door to Rite-Aid to buy their tissue boxes.

They tossed all the tissue boxes into Andrew's car and prepared to give them to Mr. Haywood the next day.

Mr. Taylor, one of Mr. Haywoods colleagues, decided to let Andrew and James store the tissue boxes in the science building's office until the two students were ready to present them to Mr. Haywood. In order to keep it a surprise, Andrew put all of the tissue boxes in a giant duffle bag.

However, Andrew and James decided that they could decorate the tissue boxes and make the tissue boxes into a nice formation so presentation could be easier. So they got a couple friends to help with the preparation.

Because Andrew and James had to emphasize the fact that these tissue boxes were paying for our fines, they decided to put "Jail or Fine?" on their wall of tissue boxes.

The finished product with the two perpetrators. (front view)

Because Andrew and James had Mr. Haywood for 6th period, they decided to move it into Mr. Haywood's classroom and in front of the door during lunch to make sure that he would notice that Andrew and James were paying back their fines.

When lunch ended, Mr. Haywood came to unlock his door out of routine, but this time, he found something in the way...

Contributors to the Paper-Mache Trust Fund (not really...but still!)

Facts about the operation:

-The tissues cost around 65 dollars total.
-The wall consisted of 45 tissue boxes.
-Yes, we did actually clean out Safeway.
-Mr. Haywood's door was around 3 ft x 7 ft
-Our tissue box wall was around 2 ft 9 in x 6 ft 3 in.
-We do not owe 45 fines...thank you very much.
-The wall is still in his room and will be there until the beginning of next school year. He said that he would keep it up until next year so he can scare his students.
-Around 1 full roll of mailing tape, and 1/2 a roll of masking tape, and 2 meter sticks were used to sucure all of the tissue boxes.
-Operation Paper-Mache occured during 6th period on Monday, May 22, 2006.

And...just a random picture of something i did when i was bored...yes, it is an ambigram of "Jail or Fine?"

OK, now in order to confirm that this is an ambigram, you're going to have to either

1. Turn your head upside-down to see how it reads the other direction or...
2. Turn your monitor upside-down so you don't have to hurt yourself.

Just kidding, here's the picture upside down. You can confirm this by observing the signature, in the first picture it is in the bottom right corner, when turned 180 degrees around, the signature should be in the top left corner.

Conclusion?

OPERATION PAPER-MACHE: SUCCESS

the result of another 4 years of work

actually...the title's wrong, but i thought it would be kinda cool to make my titles have parallelism haha. its actually supposed to be 7 years since 6th grade.

i have always had a great passion for music ever since i was young. i remember singing at the top of my lungs "MMM MMM MMM THE APPLE TASTES GOOD" in preschool while rubbing my stomach in a circular motion signifying the tastiness of the apple.......all i remember is that everyone else stopped singing because they forgot the lyrics, but i kept going and kept singing louder and louder. the following year, i joined "kindermusic", a program taught by my (at that time) future piano teacher, it basically taught me all the basics to basic piano. after learning piano for a good 6 years in NY, where the music educators program consisted of 7 levels as opposed to the 10 here in CA, i moved to california only to find that what was level 6 in NY was the equivalent to level 9 here in CA. so i took the CM test and in two years, at 8th grade, i graduated from the CM program, theory and all. what great endeavors happened after that moment? well, i quit piano.

the last year before moving to california, i took up violin to become a part of my elementary school orchestra. the only song i remember playing was pachelbel's canon in D....and playing the same 8 half notes over and over again. as soon as we moved here, i wanted to continue learning violin, but couldnt find a teacher that was close enough to home...since SO MANY PEOPLE PLAY VIOLIN......so i switched to cello :] which i played for........6-7 years.

then....miller middle school came around...and there wasnt an ORCHESTRA. i was pissed beyond belief....i joined SBYO for cello, advanced quickly to the senior orchestra, which actually wasnt very talented at all...and then...i quit after a while and actually tried out for CYS...but wasnt happy with my "prep" orchestra seating. so i joined a chinese orchestra with my dear friend fred and played a different, more cultural form of music with its own kind of expression.

so, to fill my elective spot in middle school, i picked band since nothing else appealed to me. i actually dont know why i picked oboe...i guess...part of it was because i had to bike to school every day, and carrying anything bigger than a clarinet or flute would be a hassle. i didnt want to play clarinet because i knew it would be very popular and competitive, but i didnt want to play flute....for femininity reasons...so i picked oboe and i dont regret it at all.

along the way, i have met new friends....vicky, nicole, cindy, daniel, rhiannon, loretta, connie, jessie, selena, rebecca, HAHA yujie....(ok i guess..they are mostly girls) but i would just like to say that i am truly lucky to be able to enjoy making and listening to music with such talented individuals and such wonderful friends.

during seventh grade, i took up percussion since you cant march with oboe in marching band. i took a great liking to, yes, the banging of a stick on a circular piece of skin. i played snare in 7th and 8th grade (not very well at all) but joined up with the pit during freshman year and took a more serious, musical approach to making music with percussion. along this road, i played in numerous percussion ensembles, although i have never been in the competitive ones.

i have taken many paths through my journey in musical expression, however, these paths all converge onto my own road that i pave for myself. each and every instrument i have encountered has enriched my life in many different ways.

heres to 4 years of high school dedication.

CCS - the result of 4 years of work

//edit - special request.

thats the stamp they gave to all the people that came to watch...gross isnt it. well it IS stanford.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

so after 4 years of swimming with the lynbrook high school swim team...the result has been rewarding, yet a little disappointing at the same time. i have to admit, this year was a little faster than before, but nonetheless, with more experience, i should have been a little faster myself, right? a little deprovement from last year is ok i guess. at least theres always pictures.

you can check results here (pdf): boys | girls

you can see how lynbrook ranked overall here: boys | girls

lets just put it this way...i placed worse than last year and went slower than last year

at least it was fun.

it all started with pre-ccs dinner at frankie johnny and luigi's too

ccs dinner

alvin being himself

the great brandt

george modeling our CCS shirt

at the meet

andrea pigging out. girls camping out.

brandt's 50 free during trials: 21.40

i had a bad angle. brandt's 50 free final on saturday - 21.52

AND LOOK. HE WON. THAT MONSTER. so guess what...

JEROME GOT TO PRESENT MEDALS.

jerome giving brandt his 1st place medal

brandt on top of the world. fastest high schooler in the water in the bay area. haha

a closer look at the 50 free finalists.

well he got a silver one last year. now he has the gold one. as for my swims...

thats me on the blocks for my 100 breast. i got 5th in my heat - 1:02.15

getting ready to anchor our 400 free relay.

thats me entering the water for the 400 free relay.

we got 7th going 3:17.88. i went 49.22

being 7th and all..we had to receive our glory on the medal stand. im the last one on the left.

our relay.

so i had my personal cheering squad - -

and...we celebrated our sucess at mimi's cafe

thats all for now.
